Best Way to Treat Scale on Sago Palm?

It's pretty advanced, we think it came from some small holly bushes nearby. Guy at the nursery said the oils and such won't work well now that the weathers warming up. He recommended cutting off all leaves and treating head with malathion???

Thanks.

Best Way to Treat Scale on Sago Palm?
Sounds like the garden center guy is on the right track. Scale are almost impossibe to kill until the crawlers move out from their protection. Trying using a systemic insecticide.

Dysyston and Merit, aka Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Care, are both labeled for most scale. A systemic insecticide is applied to the root zone and translocated throughout the entire plant. Merit is labeled as season long control.

This should take care of your problem. The scales should brush off once the crawlers are gone.
