Should I put it in a bigger pot? Its still in a teeny pot from Home Depot.
Why is my new sago palm turning yellow?
Go ahead and put it in a bigger pot.
Be carefull on how much you water it. Usually turning yellow means too much water. Palms like to be kept on the dry side.
Check to make sure it doesn't have an insect infestation. I know the Home Depot here doesn't take care of it's plants too well and just walking through and looking at them I saw spidermites and scale on a lot of their plants. Spider mites you'd see webs and see them crawling around and you'd also see a sticky "sap" on the leaves. Scale would be scaly looking bumps on the stems or leaves. Especially check the underside of leaves....it's where most of those pesky critters like to hide.
This palm does like high light...but I would be carefull with putting it outside in the full sun. If you want to do that you need to slowly acclimate it by putting it in the shade outside first and slowly day by day move it into more and more sun. There's a difference between full sun through a window and full sun outside. Also you'll have to check it for water more often outside as it will lose moisture due to the wind too. You'll also have an increased risk of getting spidermites or other bugs on it by having it outside. You'll want to check it over carefully before bringing it back inside or spray it preventitively with some insecticidal soap to make sure it's "clean" before you bring it in and possible infect your other houseplants.
Hope this helped. Good luck! :o)
Reply:Yes, it is root bound.
After taking it out, try to spread the roots the best you can.
These get to be very large plants and need root room.
Reply:Is the pot dry? Soak it in water, repot it into a bigger pot and keep it away from frosts.
Are you keeping it too wet. Allow it to dry out a little between waterings, repot it and keep it away from frosts.
Palms like full sun. Maybe it needs a spell outside.
Reply:Needs a bigger pot. I got one from walmart one time, thats when I started out with plants. It started out like that, till my sister-in-law said it needed to be replanted in another pot. It works. I also got a ivy, that I done the same thing.
It's grow even more, and have some new ones are coming up from it.
Good Luck !!!
