I have a Sago Palm bonsai but noticed that the leaves are turning yellow?

If you live in the U.S., send an email to me at:

wchoat@american-bonsai.com , and I'll send you complete care

instructions for your sago palm. Meanwhile, the previous answers are very good......the problem is probably in the watering since the sago palms store water in their bulb-looking trunk. You may also want to check the Bonsai Care page on my site:

It depends on if it is outside or inside. If inside it is probably from either not enough water or too much water. Put your finger in the soil and see if it is staying too wet. Be sure and cut off yellow leaves because the dead leaves will keep nutrients from getting to other parts of the plant.

If it is outside maybe the temperature is your problem. I have 5 large sagos outside and live in zone 7 in the US. They do get some yellow leaves during the winter but I trim these in the spring and usually get 2-3 new sets of leaves each summer.
Reply:Is it getting enough sunshine?
Reply:Not enough light or water.......sometimes, too much water.
Reply:I know if you have a sago palm in your yard and it gets too much water it turns yellow... the bonsai would be the same way, i would think...
