How do you separate Sago Palm trees?

I have one semi-large one (diameter of about 5 feet) and two smaller ones (about 3 feet) that I suppose were once seedlings.

How do I separate them?

---- Should I first remove all of them at the same time?

Any ideas or suggestions?

How do you separate Sago Palm trees?
Hey Chicago U,

Lots of people actually like that look. If you dig them up, you will be able to examine the root and lower (below the ground) trunk structure. If they have merged as one, then you might kill all of them if you try to extract 3 from eachother.

Depending on what it looks like uprooted, you might be able to seperate them. Try to pry one from the bunch, then another one, then the last one. It might take a little pressure. If you cannot pry them apart, then looks like they merged their functional trunks. If you cut the 2 smaller ones off, prune them away - your large one should be OK in any event.

Perhaps some of the tips on care in the web sites below may give you some keys.
