What are the contents of sago't gulaman?

sago is a starch extracted from the juice scraped from trunk the tropical palm sago tree or in mindanao its called lumbia, the plant variety is similar to a coconut tree. the the juice or sap is formed into the desired forms which is usually white in color but in the philippines they come up in red green yellow and violet colors.


while the gulaman naturally comes from seaweeds the gelatinous kind which in visayas and mindanao is called 'GOZO'. once harvested from the sea, it is shipped to one of the processing plants for gulaman in cebu to become gulaman sticks or gelatin powder. some of it are converted to fertilizers or feeds. but in the shoreline households in visayas and mindanao it is prepared as a seafood appetizer salad by blanching the gozo, drip dried and mixed with vinegar, sugar, salt, ginger and onions and sili if desired.


as a refreshment the following are the contents


1. tapioca or sago (combine sago to boiling and mix constantly until at most of the sago are 75% translucent which you are to blanch by draining those and transfer the sago to a large container full of ice and water.


2. brown sugar


3.1 tablespoon banana or almond flavoring


4.gallons of water and ice (depends on your sago and sugar)


5. gulaman or gelatin (buy the chinese brand canned gelatin or use the gulaman sticks by boiling 2 cups of water for every gulaman stick and once the gulaman is melted in the boiling water transfer to container to cool and be cut into desired form.
